My current body of work is about exploring relationships. Specifically I am exploring the interplay between Nature, Man, and the Spiritual.

Ceramic art itself is a full-on experience of Nature’s ancient elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. I shape these elements to form a pleasing useful object. By using symbolic imagery, tone, composition, color, and form, I comment on the history and current state of these triune entities.

I use a lot of black and white symbolic imagery to emphasize the seeming duality of Man’s thinking mind. I use color as a symbol as well.
The sgraffito work on the surface of the pieces is composed to reflect the mood and rhythm of the piece. The form of the pieces generally pays homage to the shapes of the ancient worlds.

It is fascinating to me how natural images have very specific symbolic language going back thousands of years.
