Jane Cartwright
I am a storyteller… easily amused and always curious.
My handbuilt pottery reflects my background in illustration and graphic design, and the stories are inspired by my love for the ocean, gardens, and the animals that share our lives. I present them in bold black and white sgraffito or in exuberant, juicy colors. The forms range from classic to playful, but I am deliberate in their construction.
Most of my designs are joyful nonsense: improbable flowers blooming on ocean reefs, snorkeling cats (no one drowns in my soup bowls,) excitable flying fish in a garden, and other oddities.
My goal is to bring joy. I hope my stories become a bright spot in someone’s daily routine, and when it’s not in use it can wave hello from across the room.
